Camstar guns are built to survive Indian conditions, but every airgun — every brand, every price — lives or dies by the same five habits. Here they are, in the order they matter.
1. Feed it proper pellets (never BBs, never darts)
Use quality .177 (4.5 mm) lead diabolo pellets — like the Star Match tins we stock (₹450 / 300). Deformed, bargain-bin or steel projectiles score barrels and wreck accuracy permanently. Store tins closed; oxidised pellets shoot inconsistently. Never re-shoot a recovered pellet.
2. CO₂ discipline (RX Gen 3 owners, this is yours)
- Remove the cylinder after every session. Leaving CO₂ pressure on the seals for weeks flattens O-rings — the №1 cause of "my pistol is leaking".
- Put one drop of silicone oil on the cylinder tip every 4–5 cylinders; it circulates and keeps seals supple.
- Store cylinders at room temperature, never in a car parked in the sun (they're pressure vessels — treat them with respect).
3. Know your O-rings before they fail
Seals are 90-day-to-2-year consumables depending on climate and use. The warning signs: hissing after loading gas, dropping velocity, or CO₂ cylinders emptying overnight. Replacement is cheap — genuine Camstar O-rings and seal kits start around ₹99 — and a 10-minute job. Message us your model on WhatsApp and we'll match the exact part.
4. Clean the barrel less than you think
Airgun barrels don't foul like firearms. Every 500–1000 pellets, pull a few cleaning pellets or a rod patch through (the RX Gen 3 ships with a rod). Never use petroleum solvents on a springer — combustion in the compression chamber (dieseling) can damage seals; silicone-based products only.
5. Monsoon-proof storage
Humidity is the Indian airgun killer. Store the gun unloaded, uncocked (springers especially — a spring left cocked for months weakens), in its case with a silica gel pouch, and wipe external metal with a lightly oiled cloth after handling — fingerprints etch bluing during the monsoon. A cupboard shelf beats an under-bed box: warmer, drier, out of children's reach.
The 30-second post-session ritual
- Confirm unloaded, magazine out.
- CO₂ cylinder out (CO₂ guns).
- Wipe metal down.
- Case it with the silica pouch. Done.
